Scar centers are skin-related centers that provide services to improve the appearance of the skin. In severe cases, discomfort and inflammation can also be addressed through the services of treatment centers.
What are scars?
Healing is a natural biological procedure that occurs when the underlying skin or muscles are damaged. This contributes to the complete regeneration of the skin. Some scars will heal over time, turning into weak spots on the skin, while others will not heal yet.
What scars can you have?
● Keloid scar.
If the scar extends beyond the injury, red and unsightly, it
is a keloid scar. It is caused by the production of extra collagen at the
repair site.
● Hypertrophic scar.
If the scar is red and uncomfortable but does not extend
beyond the injury, it is a hypertrophic scar. It is also caused by an
overproduction of collagen at the repair site.
● Pits/scar from an ice ax.
If the scar is hollow, it is a pitted or "ice
pick" scar. It is caused by the loss of fat that protects the skin
underneath.
● Thin scars.
Fine-line scars are typical types of scars resulting from
everyday trauma. Over time, they regenerate in order to disappear or go
unnoticed.
● Scars from contractures.
This happens on the burn site. The skin over the repair site
is stretched, resulting in minimal movement and spread.
